Expert Dry Needling

Expert Dry Needling in Cambridge, MA

At Buffer Trenouth Physical Therapy & Wellness, our licensed PTs use dry needling as part of a whole-body, root-cause approach — so you move freely and live fully again. Serving Cambridge and Greater Boston.

Still in Pain After Trying Everything?

When standard treatments fall short, it's often because they're treating the symptom — not the system. You deserve care that looks at the whole picture.

Treated One Part at a Time

Insurance-driven PT often targets a single body part per visit. But your shoulder pain may be rooted in your hip — and a siloed approach will keep you cycling through appointments without lasting relief.

Generic Plans, Generic Results

Cookie-cutter exercise sheets and rushed 30-minute sessions don't account for your body, your history, or your goals. Without a personalized plan, progress stalls — and frustration builds.

Triggers Left Untreated

Muscle trigger points, restricted fascia, and vestibular dysfunction often go unaddressed in conventional care. Dry needling and manual therapy target these root causes directly — but not every clinic offers them.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your first dry needling or PT session in Cambridge.

Do you accept insurance?

Buffer Trenouth PT is an out-of-network, self-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly, but we provide detailed superbills you can submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. FSA and HSA cards are accepted. This model means your care plan is built entirely around your body and goals — not restricted by what insurance will authorize.

What is dry needling and is it safe?

Dry needling is a technique in which a licensed physical therapist inserts thin filiform needles directly into myofascial trigger points — tight, irritable muscle knots — to release tension, reduce pain, and restore normal neuromuscular function. At Buffer Trenouth PT, dry needling is performed exclusively by licensed PTs as one component of a personalized, whole-body treatment plan.

How is this different from a standard PT clinic?

Unlike insurance-based practices that often treat one body part per visit in 30-minute appointments, our clinicians perform full-hour, one-on-one sessions and assess your whole body. If your shoulder pain originates from your hip, we find that. Your care plan is built around the full picture — not a single billing code.

Do you offer virtual sessions or home visits?

Yes. We offer mobile PT and home visit sessions as well as virtual appointments — ideal for patients with limited mobility, busy schedules, or those who prefer care in their own environment. Ask about availability when you book your discovery call.

What is the free discovery call?

The discovery call is a complimentary 15-minute phone conversation with a member of our team. It's your chance to describe what's going on, ask questions, and determine whether our approach is the right fit before committing to a session. There's no obligation — just an honest conversation about your needs.

Where are you located and what are your hours?

Our Cambridge office is at 552 Massachusetts Ave, Suite 214, Cambridge, MA 02139 — in Central Square, right off Mass Ave. We're open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 AM–6 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday from 9 AM–6 PM. We also have a second location in Jamaica Plain at 342 Centre Street.
